An angry response, especially in communicating with others, is rarely a productive response. When we react in an intense emotional state it often leads to regret, hurt feelings, and damage to the relationship. Constant anger directed at oneself can lead to chronic stress issues and even depression. This course will help us understand the negative impact on ourselves and others of repeatedly reacting in anger. We will identify anger “triggers”, dysfunctional behaviors related to “bad tempers” and bad choices, and coping strategies for dealing with intense anger responses in ourselves and others. Learning Objectives - Define and understand the dynamics of anger including the biochemistry of this intense emotion.
- Learn types and degrees of anger, frustration, rage on a spectrum.
- Recognize ineffective, unhealthy behavioral reactions related to anger in self and others.
- Develop coping strategies and de-escalation techniques for change, choice, and control.
About the Presenter
Meri Jo Warner is a licensed clinical social worker with over 40 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse counseling and over 30 years as a corporate trainer. She provides training on a wide variety of topics including Substance Abuse, Sexual Harassment, Communication Skills, Team Building, etc. She has worked with construction companies from Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and New York. She has a masters’ degree from The Ohio State University and is registered with the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation as a trainer and consultant.
