We live in our world in which we can comfortably and happily live for extended periods of time. Scientific and technological advances have increased the average life expectancy by decades. But what happens when our health is fading and time is getting shorter? We must be prepared to arm ourselves and our families. Pre - register by 1/6/26 for this webinar. AASC is moving from one database to another, so registrations will be moved and then billed from the new system.

We must be prepared to arm ourselves and our families with an understanding of what our concept of quality of life and a meaningful transition from this world looks like. We will explore medical planning at end of life and how culture can play a role.

  • Explore medical documents needed at/close to end of life.
  • Recognize the importance of designating a medical power or attorney.
  • Analyze what a Do Not Resuscitate order entails.
  • Uncover and dispel common myths about hospice care.
  • Highlight the benefits of having hard conversations with loved ones.

About the Presenter

Rachel Butler is a board-certified family nurse practitioner from Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and graduate degree from Georgetown University. A consummate learner, she is currently pursuing her doctorate in nursing from the University of Connecticut. Passionate about patient care, Rachel has been a provider for over 15 years and has practiced overseas and within several states providing care in the fields of plastic and reconstructive surgery, primary care, overseas embassy medicine and palliative care. As a palliative care provider, Rachel aims to empower her patients to maintain their autonomy, dignity, and comfort during some of their most difficult moments in life. She currently is a provider for an in-patient Palliative Care team at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. When she is not working, she is feverishly studying and traveling with her husband and 2 elementary school-aged children.
